What is GrapheneOS?

GrapheneOS is a privacy-focused Android OS built on the Android Open Source Project. It removes Google’s data collection layer and replaces it with a hardened, security-audited system — the kind of setup security researchers and journalists use when they need a phone that stays quiet.

Key differences from stock Android:

• No Google Play Services running by default (can be added in a sandboxed container if needed)

• Hardened memory allocator and kernel settings that resist exploitation

• Per-app network, sensor, and contact permission controls beyond stock Android
